Ethical Non-monogamy (ENM)

Let’s talk ‘alternative’ relationship models…

There’s little space in our current ways of living to question our relationship models. We’re constantly learning relationship scripts from the world around us: other relationships, the media and advertising, religions and even nursery rhymes (“first comes love, then comes marriage…”), and they all seem to point in one direction: monogamy. This situation often leaves us unaware of our options, and it even limits our ability to design our own relationships, tailored to our own unique needs.

That’s why in August 2021 at My Sex Bio we’ll be exploring the concept of Ethical Non-monogamy (ENM), also known as Consensual Non-monogamy (CNM). Mahdy, a member of a triad (a relationship consisting of three people), believes that “None of us are all suited to one thing. If monogamy suits you well, great! But find your own way within that, create your own rules, your own way of being. You don’t have to follow this religious model or that social model. You can create what works best for you.”

Here are some questions we’re addressing:

  • What is ethical non-monogamy and what does it look like?

  • What are the keys to a successful ethically non-monogamous life?

  • What are signs a non-monogamous dynamic is turning into an unhealthy one?

  • What are the benefits and challenges of ethical non-monogamy?

  • Do people choose these relationship structures to have more sexual encounters?

  • What are some misconceptions surrounding ethical non-monogamy?
